The Agency defence procurement in South Korea blockchain launches pilot project


The Korean Agency for defense development and the Agency for technology and quality of defence procurement in the defence sector, today announced that in conjunction with the leadership program to raise funds to protect (DAPA), will work on creating a blockchain-based platform that, among other things, to prevent “tampering” of the data in defense procurement.

Together the three agencies hope to increase “trust” for procurement transactions in the defense industry, fully registering the procurement process on the blockchain, from initial filings to final evaluation. In addition, the flow control business proposals will be automated, which will eliminate the “inconvenience” of the traditional processing of paper documents.

The technology of the blockchain will also play an important role in the acquisition process, helping to “reduce the burden” in defense of the company, providing unified management of permissions and notifications for transportation of various weapons, according to DAPA.

Other public blockchain projects

Kim Tae-gon, a senior fellow for planning and coordination in DAPA, said the project is part of the Agency plan to deploy the blockchain in the system of the defense business and providing innovative services in the public sector.

The Ministry of defence is not the only Agency interested in the technology of the blockchain. In the past year, various state agencies of South Korea have already experienced the blockchain technology in the public sector.

In September last year, the Korean Agency KISA, a division of the Ministry of ICT, said that will double the number of pilot blockchain projects in the public sector this year in half and increase their budget by 2019, to more than $9 million, in addition to the previously established funding of $9 million in 2018 and 2019.

The Ministry of science, ICT and planning and the Ministry of oceans and fisheries has also launched a pilot blockchain project, which aims to improve the efficiency of container transport.
