The long-awaited deployment of Ethereum 2.0 was launched with the launch of the testnet Gorli

The long-awaited deployment of Ethereum 2.0 has officially started today after the completion of the initial pre-release phase zero. This is the first stage in a series of weekly preliminary revision updates, which will continue throughout February and the beginning of this stage Ethereum entered into the third stage of transforming Metropolis.

News from Ethereum Foundation about this event was published on the official channel platform on Github, which says:

“This is the first release in a series of weekly revisions of February this year. A zero phase in v0.1 is quite full and close to the final”.

Version 2.0 Ethereum, known as Serenity, is the latest update of Ethereum, in which the whole network will be transferred to the matching algorithm Proof-of-Stake (PoS) from an existing Proof-of-Work (PoW). It is expected that the update will bring significant improvements in scalability and speed of Ethereum, which is the cause of all of the claims to the network that we have seen lately.

The last step and run the test network Gorli

At the current stage of transition to Serenity will have to make two system-wide hard forks: Byzantium and Constantinople. Last for a long time should be performed, but was prevented by some vulnerability that was discovered just before its planned activation in January. Now the fork is scheduled for the end of this month.

In the framework of the release of Serenity, yesterday I was running another test network Gorli, which is designed to test a trial version of the client Prysm for Ethereum 2.0. Testnet Gorli will enable developers to test smart contracts and other new features before deploying them on the production network. Since this is a test network, it is not required to pay any fees for the transaction. So Gorli will play an important role in the implementation of the roadmap updates Ethereum 2.0.

Now that began to appear weekly pre-releases to be updated Ethereum, which will occur every week during this month, the community began to hope that the update, in the end, all will be brought to a logical conclusion.
